Jess Mossbruger

Founder of Miss Jess Literacy

Hi, I’m Jess, founder of Miss Jess Literacy, educator, and literacy specialist. I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master’s Degree in Reading Education, and I’ve spent the past 10+ years helping children become confident readers!

What started as a passion for literacy has grown into a literacy company that supports families with play-based, personalized learning, backed by research. While I now lead a small team of amazing, experienced educators, I’m deeply involved in every part of the process, from designing resources and creating courses, to matching families with the perfect tutor!

Everything we do at Miss Jess Literacy is built around creating real connections, growing a love for reading, and using evidence-based strategies that really work.

We believe every child deserves to feel successful with reading and we’d love to be part of your child’s journey!

Miss Lexie

Literacy Tutor

Hi! My name is Alexandra "Lexie" Hunter and I am originally from Winston-Salem, NC!

I am a NC Licensed K-6 Teacher and have been teaching for 5 years, in both Kindergarten and 1st grade! I graduated in 2020, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Dance. I am also Orton Gillingham trained! I love having the opportunity to play an instrumental part in developing young readers and writers - and encouraging students to have confidence in and an appreciation for their learning!

I always strive to find new ways to make all learning meaningful AND fun!

Miss Katie

Literacy Tutor

Hi! My name is Katie, and I’m so excited to be part of the Miss Jess Literacy Team!

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Maine. After graduating, I taught English abroad before returning home to Maine, where I now live with my husband and daughter. As a K–8 certified educator with nearly ten years of classroom experience, I’ve discovered a passion for helping young learners develop strong reading and writing skills. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child gain confidence as they grow into a proud reader! Outside of teaching, you can find me spending time with my family, exploring local coffee shops, or getting lost in a good book.

I can’t wait to support your child's learning journey and help them blossom into a confident reader.

Currently, I’m based in Austin, Texas, where I tutor reading and math at a local business. A fun fact about me is that I am an internationally certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator (LCCE).

I’m excited to be a part of Miss Jess Literacy and to help your child achieve their goals!

After 10 joyful years teaching Pre-K at a New York City public school, I transitioned back to work as a reading interventionist for grades K-4. I am currently training at the Associate Level of Orton-Gillingham. I am also a mom to a four year old and a one year old! We love to explore local parks, playgrounds, coffee shops, and our public library. I am thrilled to combine my love of teaching and learning through play with an evidence-based, multisensory approach to literacy instruction.

I can’t wait to be a part of your child’s learning journey and help them develop the skills to become confident readers and writers!

FAQ

  • Tutoring is the right fit for your child if they’re:

    • behind in grade level

    • needing one on one support

    • missing early literacy skills (letters, letter sounds, phonological awareness. etc)

    • struggling with reading

    • not doing well on academic assessments

    • needing homeschool instructional support

    • struggling to learn how to read

    • becoming frustrated with reading

  • If your child is struggling with reading, it’s important not to take a “wait and see” approach, hoping they will just outgrow the difficulty. The truth is, children don’t naturally grow into strong readers because their brains aren’t wired to learn how to read on their own. Struggles in reading often indicate gaps in foundational skills, and without the right help, those gaps can grow.

Statistics show one in three children entering kindergarten lack the basic skills they need to learn to read!

About 66% of U.S. fourth graders do not read at grade level.

Early intervention is crucial to ensure your child gets the support they need to build strong reading skills and succeed in the future.
